About the SRD Grant
Relief of Distress Grant (SRD Grant) administers section 32 of the Social Assistance Act, 2004 (Act No. 13 of 2004) with the concurrence of the Minister of Finance.
The SRD Grant intends for South African Citizens, Refugees, Asylum Seekers, and Special Permit Holders aged between 18 and 60 years. It aims to assist individuals who have insufficient means, do not receive social grants, are not eligible for UIF payment, and lack financial support from other sources.

Applicants or their representatives must confirm or provide the following information to enable SASSA to consider their application:
- Confirmation of having read and accepted the clauses in the Declaration and Consent Documents
- Personal Details
- Mobile Number (cell phone number)
- Employment Information and Lifestyle Sustainability Information
- Banking Information
Please note that all information will provide electronically, and there is no need to upload any documentation. Ensure to provide SASSA with a valid Mobile Number where they can reach you to provide feedback on your application status. Application status can also be checked on this website.
If your application declines, you have the right to appeal the decision. The appeal process will outline in the notification of the declined application. Failure to request an appeal for each declined month will result in the original decision being upheld.
How does the SRD R350 grant work(Social Relief of Distress Grant)
For South African ID Holders: If you possess a South African ID Card or Green ID Book with a 13-digit SA ID number.
For Asylum Seekers and Special Permit Holders: If you are an Asylum Seeker with a valid File Number or a Special Permit Holder from Zimbabwe, Angola, or Lesotho SASSA 350 Status Check.
